JR (Jesse) Boleyn's professional career as a
performer began in October 1979 when renowned singer/songwriter and music
composer, Shawn Phillips, whose work Boleyn admired, agreed to audition him
as an opening act for his upcoming American tour following a telephone call
he made to Phillips, who was living in Positano, Italy at the time. Boleyn
eventually got the gig, the first to do so in 13 years, and his national
debut October 12th, 1979 at the Strand Theater in Rochester, N.Y. was, "a
nerve wracking, flatly sung, frightening, lackluster 'standing-room-only'
affair," recounts Boleyn. "I guess I got the hang of it by the time I had to
face a Dallas, Texas packed house of 3500 loyal Shawn fans on my own for 25
minutes on the last leg of the tour. I got invited back, and that was good
enough for me." |

To promote his new record No Gravity,
Boleyn began touring again for the first time in three years. He called his
friend Shawn Phillips and they decided to do a series of shows together,
kicking off the tour with a 15 year anniversary. Concert photos on
