GIVE ME THE MOONSUIT Being an American, and not very fluent in French, it was generally agreed, that if the patient spoke English, I would take the lead in trying to determine what was wrong with them. We got a call for a generalized sickness, and it was at the top of 5 flights of stairs. OUCH, THAT HURTS !! " When I ride out with Urgences Sante, the main ambulance service in Montreal, sometimes one of my partners is a man named Dan Garvin. This man is a force of nature, and has more compassion than any one person should have. I have seen him cradle the head of a very elderly lady, who was frightened of being in the hospital, as she had never been there before. She was crying, and shaking, and Dan put his arms around her and spoke to her very softly, and I watched her go from an abject state of fear, to no tears, and smiling, knowing that no matter what happened, he would take care of her, and make sure she got back home safely. He did, as well. One evening, we were waiting in our designated area for a call to come through the CAD, (Computer Aided Dispatch), and we got a call for a P1, (Priority One), GSW, (Gun shot wound), and when we arrived, it was an 18 year old Jamaican kid, who had been shot 3 times, with a 22 Cal.
